EXTINCT (Children’s Book)
EXTINCT is a children’s book I wrote to address one of the most pressing issues of our time: the sixth mass extinction. As a dad and storyteller, I wanted to create a book that doesn’t shy away from the urgency of environmental crises but instead sparks honest conversations with children.
The story follows Max, a pre-teen whose love for animals becomes an obsessive quest to find the last of three endangered species. Told through rhyming text and paired with stunning illustrations by Lehel Kovács, EXTINCT introduces young readers to the absurdity of our current crisis, where humanity prioritizes individual wants over the health of our ecosystems. While the book doesn’t have a happy ending, it carries a vital message: the importance of awareness, education, and action.
Unlike most children’s books on endangered species, EXTINCT is unapologetically direct. It’s a conversation starter, designed to provoke thought and inspire the next generation to ask tough questions about the world they’re inheriting.
This book is my rallying cry for honesty in how we talk to kids about the environment. EXTINCT is for readers aged 6–12 but has been enjoyed by kids as young as 4 and as old as 15—and by adults too.
